Episode XXV – Climate change

Guest: Farkhod Aminjonov

Step into our Yurt and join us for a monthly conversation on Europe-Central Asia developments. In this series of podcasts, we welcome guests from both regions to discuss exciting new research and the latest developments in Europe and Central Asia. Together, we discuss society trends, political developments, economic turns, and cultural highlights while assessing the past and looking ahead to what may unfold.

In this episode, hosts Rashid Gabdulhakov and Kamila Smagulova meet with Farkhod Aminjonov, who is an Associate Professor of Strategic and Security Studies at the National Defence College in Abu Dahbi, UAE. Farkhod kicks off by making a grim assessment of climate change impact in Central Asia. As glaciers melt over the coming decades, chances of regional tensions and food insecurity will rise. Hosts and guest discuss climate education and they exchange experiences of Central Asian summers that every year get hotter. The chat also includes some important advice to the EU, that Farkhod sees as important but not as a game-changer as Central Asia relies today at Chinese tech and Gulf investments.
