In this episode, hosts Rashid Gabdulhakov and Kamila Smagulova meet with Bakhytzhan Kurmanov, a research fellow at the Institute of Public Policy and Administration, Graduate School of Development, University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, and Colin Knox who is Emeritus Professor Ulster University (UK) and Adjunct Professor Nazarbayev University, Graduate School of Public Policy in Kazakhstan. Together they discuss their recent article Digital activism and authoritarian legitimation in post-Soviet Central Asia. In the chat, the authors give examples from their research on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. They discuss how digital activism works and how it interacts with the state’s digital presence and policies.
