Kyrgyzstan and Europe: A Relationship built on securing development?
In Bishkek EUCAM enjoyed the hospitality and cooperation of the American Central Asia University in organising on 23 May the seminar Kyrgyzstan and Europe: A Relationship Built on Securing Development. The event gathered international and local experts as well as a number of AUCA students and is part of the EUCAM-SD project funded under the Wider Europe Initiative of Finland. Next to debates on security and development specific attention was devoted to migration, both internal migration in Kyrgyzstan as well as labour migration to Russia. Debates centred around the social implications of this phenomenon that impacts heavily on Kyrgyz society for better and worse. During the seminar EUCAM presented its first EUCAM-SD working paper: The EU compared to China and Russia while HelpAge International presented their Portrayal of Absence.
