In this ninth episode, hosts Yelena Kilina (EUCAM communications associate) and Rashid Gabdulhakov (assistant professor at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, University of Groningen, The Netherlands) meet with Roman Vakulchuk who is a senior research fellow at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). Together they discuss energy transition in Central Asia and the underlying problem of climate change. Whereas there is broad concern about climate change and its impact on Central Asia, this has not yet translated into ample attention among research and donor communities. Roman discusses what Central Asian countries are doing to transition from fossil energy to renewables. What role do outside actors play in this, foremost China’s economic interests in Central Asia? Is the EU effectively assisting Central Asian countries in this transition?
