Media and Security workshop in Rotterdam


On 16 October, EUCAM and CESS fellows were in Rotterdam to take part in the ‘Media and Security’ workshop organised by EUCAM advisory group member Rashid Gabdulhakov who is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Rashid studies surveillance and citizen-led justice on social networks. The workshop was already held three times before for EUCAM fellows. Each time our fellows learn from Rashid’s extensive knowledge on media matters while being impressed with his enthusiastic training and communication skills.

The workshop covered media systems and contextualisation of media in relation to security. Fellows were introduced to key concepts of digital and social media and its relationship with political and economic systems.

In the afternoon, the fellows and the CESS interns presented their own reports about media systems and related contexts in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Greece and the Netherlands.
